I posted a similar version of the text between the dashed lines below to a public discussion forum when the idea of throwing out the electoral college came up. I thought you might possibly find these ideas interesting.
I believe it to be a breach of national security and possibly even an act of treason to simply throw out a constitutional system we don't understand. As loyal American citizens of any party, I urge you to make a specific note of anyone who intends to modify our Constitution that protects your freedoms including the freedom to disagree agreeably. Simply remember to NOT vote for them in any future elections. They, in my opinion, are betraying our country. I realize that with a near 50-50 split, we are going to have many disappointed voters who want to simply make things go their way. Sorry, that's not the way it works here. This is the United States of America where elections are counted and the winners are determined by rule of law.
This is precisely why our founding fathers created this country as a democratic republic, not a true 100% democracy. If you want a true 100% democracy, there are many other countries around the world to choose from. Check out the statements of Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson and others for more details. Also, do make a personal effort to read the Constitution itself and any documents written by our founding fathers that refer to it for more details.
BTW, one of the most ridiculous ideas I heard so far was to elect our president using straight popular vote and to allow federal marshals to be posted at each polling place. How's that or your tax dollars at work? It sounds to me like the current administration, whoever it would be, could have quite an intimidating presence there, don't you think? If you think that police heckpoints 2 miles away are intimidating, how about federal marshals inside the building?? I still think our founding fathers had about 10 times more wisdom and understanding of this government than all of us today. It seems to be time to trust them and, of course, God.

Oh, and about the electoral college. I don't think people are thinking about the ramifications of discarding it. First, if we go straight democratic vote where each vote has exactly the same weight, then voter intimidation is much more effective because the whole election result hangs on every vote equally. This is a problem other countries have all the time.As a result of the electoral college, the "hinge points" or "hot spots" move around rapidly near the end of the election, but they are not identifiable until the time when the results are released from each precinct or county.
This prevents undue temptation of the election boards to corrupt the counts and others who might intimidate voters due to the unknown weight of the actual votes cast. The electoral system reminds me of the blind lady of justice that our nation's founders understood and established. If you want to throw justice out the window and have an unstable nation, go ahead, throw out the electoral college.
