Luke 24:13 And, behold, two of them went
that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem
about threescore furlongs.
14 And they talked
together of all these things which had happened.
15 And it came to pass, that, while
they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went
with them.
16 But their eyes were holden that
they should not know him.
17 And he said unto them, What
manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye
walk, and are sad?
18 And the one of
them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a
stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to
pass there in these days?
19 And he said unto them, What
things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth,
which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the
people:
20 And how the chief priests and
our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified
him.
21 But we trusted that it had been
he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is
the third day since these things were done.
22 Yea, and certain women also of
our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre;
23 And when they
found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision
of
angels, which said that he was alive.
24 And certain of them which were
with us went to the sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had
said: but him they saw not.
25 Then he said unto them, O
fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:
26 Ought
not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?
27 And beginning
at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the
scriptures the things concerning himself.
28 And they drew
nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though he
would
have gone further.
29 But they constrained him,
saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far
spent.
And he went in to tarry with them.
30 And it came to
pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and
brake, and gave to them.
31 And their eyes were opened, and
they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.
32 And they said
one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with
us
by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?
33 And they rose
up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven
gathered
together, and them that were with them,
34 Saying, The Lord is risen
indeed, and hath appeared to Simon.
35 And they told
what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in
breaking
of bread.
Verse 27: Here Jesus began to reveal Himself by explaining some of the following scriptures.
Genesis 3:15 And
I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and
her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
22:18 And in thy
seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast
obeyed
my voice.
49:10 The sceptre shall not depart
from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh
come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.
Deuteronomy 18:15 The LORD thy God will raise up
unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto
me; unto him ye shall hearken;
Psalms 2:1 Why do the
heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
2 The kings of the
earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the
LORD, and against his anointed, saying,
3 Let us break
their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.
4 He that sitteth
in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in
derision.
5 Then shall he
speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.
6 Yet have I set
my king upon my holy hill of Zion.
7 I will declare
the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son;
this day have I begotten thee.
8 Ask of me, and I
shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and
the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.
9 Thou shalt break
them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's
vessel.
10 Be wise now
therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.
11 Serve the LORD
with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
12 Kiss the Son,
lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled
but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.
Psalms 42:2 My soul thirsteth for God, for
the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?
68:18 Thou hast ascended
on high, thou hast led captivity captive: thou hast received gifts for
men;
yea, for the rebellious also, that the LORD God might dwell among them.
69:21 They gave me
also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.
132:11 The LORD hath
sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of the fruit of
thy
body will I set upon thy throne.
Isaiah 2:4 And he
shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they
shall
beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks:
nation
shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war
any
more.
7:14
Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a
virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
9:2 The people that walked in
darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell
in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.
6 For unto us a child is born,
unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder:
and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The
everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 28:16 Therefore thus saith the Lord
GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a
tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that
believeth shall not make haste.
42:1 Behold my servant, whom I
uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth;
I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the
Gentiles.
Isaiah 53:1 Who hath
believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?
2 For he shall
grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of
a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see
him,
there is no beauty that we should desire him.
3 He is despised
and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and
we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed
him not.
4
Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did
esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and
afflicted.
5 But he was
wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the
chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are
healed.
6 All we like
sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own
way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
7 He was
oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he
is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her
shearers
is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
8 He was taken
from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation?
for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression
of my people was he stricken.
9 And he made his
grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had
done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.
10 Yet it pleased
the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make
his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong
his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.
11 He shall see of
the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall
my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
12 Therefore will I
divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with
the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was
numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and
made intercession for the transgressors.
Isaiah 59:16 And
he saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no
intercessor:
therefore his arm brought salvation unto him; and his righteousness, it
sustained
him.
61:1 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is
upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me
to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the
brokenhearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to
them
that are bound;
63:1 Who is this
that cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? this that is
glorious in his apparel, travelling in the greatness of his strength? I
that speak in righteousness, mighty to save.
Micah 4:2 And many nations shall come, and
say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, and to the
house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we
will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth of Zion, and the
word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
Jeremiah 23:5 Behold, the days come, saith the
LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous
Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment
and
justice in the earth.
Haggai 2:7 And I
will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I
will
fill this house with glory, saith the LORD of hosts.
Zechariah 3:8 Hear now, O Joshua the high
priest, thou, and thy fellows that sit before thee: for they are men
wondered at: for, behold, I will bring forth my servant the
BRANCH.
6:12 And speak unto him, saying, Thus
speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Behold
the man whose name is The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of his
place,
and he shall build the temple of the LORD:
9:9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of
Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold,
thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and
riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.
Zechariah 11:12 And I said unto them, If ye
think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for
my price thirty pieces of silver.
12:10 And I will pour upon the house
of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace
and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have
pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only
son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness
for
his firstborn.
13:7 Awake, O sword, against my
shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow,
saith the LORD of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be
scattered: and I will turn mine hand upon the little ones.
Malachi 3:1 Behold, I
will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the
Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the
messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come,
saith the LORD of hosts.
Exodus 25:1-8; Leviticus 9:3 ; Psalms 63:1
Psalms 42:1
Romans 8:11
But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in
you,
he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken
your
mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
